About the Course

Spreadsheet tools like Excel are an essential tool for working with data - whether for data analytics, business, marketing, or research. This course is designed to give you a basic working knowledge of Excel and how to use it for analyzing data. This course is suitable for those who are interested in pursuing a career in data analysis or data science, as well as anyone looking to use Excel for data analysis in their own domain. No prior experience with spreadsheets or coding is required - all you need is a device with a modern web browser and the ability to create a Microsoft account to access Excel online at no cost. If you have a desktop version of Excel, you can also easily follow along with the course. Throughout this course, you'll gain valuable experience working with data sets and spreadsheets. We'll start by introducing you to spreadsheets like Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, and show you how to load data from multiple formats. From there, you'll learn how to perform basic data wrangling and cleansing tasks using functions, and expand your knowledge of data analysis through the use of filtering, sorting, and pivot tables. There is a strong focus on practice and applied learning in this course. With each lab, you'll have the opportunity to manipulate data and gain hands-on experience using Excel. You'll learn how to clean and format your data efficiently, and convert it into a pivot table to make it more organized and readable. The final project will allow you to showcase your newly acquired data analysis skills by working with real data sets and spreadsheets. By the end of this course, you'll have a solid foundation in using Excel for data analysis. You'll have worked with multiple data sets and spreadsheets, and will have the skills and knowledge needed to effectively clean and analyze data without having to learn any code. I'm an experienced Excel user, but this course introduced me to some new tricks, such as the use of Flash Fill and the SUMIF function that will be helpful. If you're relatively new to Excel, you should find this course very satisfying.

A few things such as VLOOKUP are touched on too briefly. The pivot table segment is a good intro, but more detail is needed to explain WHY you might want to construct your table in a particular way. Complementary reference materials would be helpful.

The course is oriented toward data analysis in the business sector. Wish there was more consideration of Excel use in research contexts.

The lab activities allow you to try out the features covered in the course, and help familiarize you with concepts, but more depth would be needed to develop proficiency.

I'd love to see this course provide examples of how to document the "data cleaning and wrangling" steps in Excel. This seems like an important omission to address.

The assignments and grading process are straightforward and relatively easy to complete. It would be great to offer optional assignments for folks like me who are eager for more advanced exercises.

The course is broadly good. However, some of the differences between expected behaviors between some basic Excel functions like the age old File>Save or Save As and some of the newer MS 365 "rename" vs the need to download your work from the cloud in order to then upload it again for grading can be less than intuitive. This problem is compounded by the fact that such differences are characterized as minor in the course lectures. While that might be the case, the differences between the modern MS 365 functionality is deviating rapidly enough from those of older, local Office installation versions shown for lecture examples that the course appears to need an overhaul to keep things consistent. I did learn quite a bit, particularly in the area of pivot tables which I had thought to be more complex than they actually are.

An informative and practical course. I have enjoyed it. One big negative is the peer review as some people don't take the time to properly assess your work and you get marked down when you shouldn't. There are also a few flaws with the marking rubic examples which confuse people. I'd love the opportunity to discuss these with the course providers but I can't find any way of contacting them. If you come across the same problem, try resubmitting your work, it will be reviewed again by someone new and hopefully by someone who understands the marking scheme properly. It worked for me.

The well-structured content empowered me to understand new dimensions of Excel's functionalities, boosting my confidence in real-world applications. This course undeniably added substantial value to my Excel proficiency. The easily understandable content immensely improved my skills and insights, invaluable for my professional growth. I wholeheartedly recommend this course for those aiming to elevate their Excel expertise.

Very good course however the lessons seemed less detailed towards the end when the topics equally got more complex. However the labs helps clarify a lot of things. Had a challenge with the final project because I should have had 100% based on the rubrics but the person who reviewed my work missed out some points. Though I still passed, it wasn't pleasant that there was no way to have this error corrected or reviewed without resubmitting my work and further delaying the completion of the course.

GREAT refresher for those that have Excel under their belt and super course for those just starting out. Having never had to deal with Excel for the Web, myself, I found it a bit tricky flipping between the desktop version and the Web version. There are a few "huh?" moments in the course that really made me look for the answer myself as it wasn't really covered in the videos...but hey, I LOVE having my brain tested.

I'll likely come back to it, periodically, just to refresh my knowledge~

Some of the videos had tiny fonts and very blurry in some of the videos. This slowed down the pace of learning had it being the fonts were bigger. Asides this, I really I am so fortunate to gather all the knowledge I need as a data analyst. The teachers were so good at teaching each modules and by far, this was my highest score and so far my most favorite course. I really enjoyed this course. This course is the bedrock of data analysis using excel. I look forward to the other courses

I liked learning about Excel through this course. The videos were very helpful in watching the processes happen in a sequential order. When it came time to do each module's hands-on lab, I found that to be somewhat difficult. The hands-on labs were kind of just random with not a lot of context and I did not feel like I was engaging with the material, at least in any realistic way. I think it would have been beneficial to work on the main objectives on the course more than once.

The course is designed for people with almost no knowledge of MS Excel, so if you have previously worked with Excel you may skip forward the videos and just skip the lab assignments quite a lot. The final assignment also is a bit unclear and unfortunately, not all other learners (aka peers) take the course and reviewing assignments seriously, which can cause some issues as your course completion depends on it. Overall, not bad and I learned some new tips and tricks.

Some of the answer guides in the peer-graded assignment are misleading. For example, the Part 2 assignment, where the first pivot table has to be sorted in descending order. The screenshot for the first pivot table creation was not sorted in descending order, hence our work will not be exactly the same as the screenshot. My grader has not given me the full 2 points for this, even though the first pivot table was created, and already sorted in descending order.

Very good actually. The course is structured very well for beginners especially. I have given it 4 stars because the Lookup functions can be explained more clearly. I didn't understand the lookup function even after seeing it 2 times. So I had to rely on some other source like youtube to get a clear idea. So, Overall I can say it's a very good and well-structured course for beginners who want to get into data analysis or for anyone who wants to learn Excel.

This was great to start building basic and foundational skills in Excel! The provided learning materials were easy to understand and when there were more confusing things I could just rewatch and reread to grasp it better. Sometimes my mind wandered during the videos or I wasn't able to follow along with the labs but I just replayed them and kept trying until I got it down. Very good course for a beginner like me!

Generally good course that covers the main topics. Some of the instructions are not correct though and it means having to search through the forum for solutions, which is quite frustrating. More info on reviewing other learners' work would also be useful - it's seems pointless to have to answer every question when you have nothing to mark if the learner hasn't uploaded a file or hasn't done so correctly.

Overall, I do appreciate being able to learn how to apply Excel in Data Analysis. There are some things that could truly improve the course. On some of the videos, it was difficult to watch the screens to see the specific steps needed, and in at least one case, the spreadsheet we needed was available on the NEXT class. It would be helpful to have the files available within each week's classes.

Very informative, easy to follow, and covers a lot of information. My only complaint is that I feel it doesn't offer a whole lot of hands-on practice and application of the information. The labs provide very detailed information and step by step instruction, but I would prefer to achieve similar results based on my own understanding of the content rather than following the steps given.

Occasionally, the instructions for the labs were difficult to follow and I think there were a couple times when they wanted me to do something that wasn't compatible with my version of the program. But overall it was a good amount of new topics covered while not being too advanced to follow. would recommend.
