Bio

Chinthaka Dinesh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering at Northeastern University in Vancouver, Canada. He received his B.Sc. in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, in 2013, and his Ph.D. in Signal and 3D Image Processing from Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, Canada, in 2021. Throughout his academic journey, he has received several awards, the most notable being the Governor General’s Gold Medal, the most prestigious award granted to graduate students in Canadian universities. His teaching interests include machine learning, deep learning, data analytics, probability and statistics. Dinesh is actively engaged in research areas such as graph neural networks, graph signal processing, model-based deep learning, and 3D point cloud processing. To date, he has published over 40 scientific papers, accumulating more than 960 citations, with an h-index of 17 and an i10-index of 23. He has served as a technical committee member or speaker for several top-tier signal processing and machine learning journals and conferences, including IEEE TIP, IEEE TMM, IEEE SPL, ICIP, ICASSP, MMSP, and ICME. Dinesh joined the College of Engineering at Northeastern University because of its strong focus on both teaching and research opportunities. He also holds an affiliation with the School of Engineering Science at Simon Fraser University as an Adjunct Professor. Prior to joining Northeastern University, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Graph & Image Signal Processing Laboratory at York University, Toronto, Canada, and a Research Scientist in the Multimedia Laboratory in the School of Engineering Science at SFU, Burnaby, Canada. Additionally, he has served as a Lecturer at the College of Professional Studies at Northeastern University and the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Dinesh has also held research positions at the National University of Singapore and the National Institute of Informatics, Tokyo, Japan
