Bio

Paul holds a personal Chair as Full Professor of Digital and Anatomical Education at the University of Glasgow. He is Director of Engagement within the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing (SoMDN). He leads on industry collaborations, workforce planning and partnership development including training and upskilling staff, as well as public/civic outreach. He has held leadership roles in the innovation and entrepreneurial space enhancing regional economic/societal impact. He is a member of the Executive Group of the SoMDN, Senate Assessor for Student Conduct, leads the UK’s largest single site Body Donation Program and is a Scottish Government appointed Licensed Teacher of Anatomy. He has a medical degree (MBChB), MSc (by research - craniofacial anatomy/surgery), PhD in neuroscience, Diploma in Forensic Medical Science (DipFMS), and an MEd with Merit (Learning and Teaching in Higher Education). He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Fellow of the Institute of Medical Illustrators (FIMI). He has an extensive publication record and is a regular invited keynote and conference speaker. He is the Founding and Series Editor for the Biomedical Visualization’s 28 book volumes with Springer Nature. It has published 281 chapters with over 275,000 downloads, contributions from over 650 different authors, from 159 institutions in 30 countries. The volumes are read in 79 countries with c. 2000 citations. He is a regular external assessor for Periodic Subject Reviews, multinational degree collaborations, degree validation/approvals, external examiner and quality assurance consultancy. He leads major Public Engagement, Outreach and Knowledge Exchange events and has coordinated collaborative projects with TedX, Royal Society of Arts, Institute of Medical Illustrators, The Finnish Institute, You Can Be a Doctor, Glasgow Science Centre, NHS, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, Hunterian Museum, Glasgow Science Festival, Humanist Society, student partnerships and industry. His research has created a long-standing strategic partnership with the School of Innovation and Technology, The Glasgow School of Art and the University of Glasgow. This led to multi-million pound investment in creating world leading 3D digital datasets. He is the Founding Director of the world leading  MSc Medical Visualisation and Human Anatomy (accredited by the Institute of Medical Illustrators) combining anatomical, digital technology and visualization training. He leads university, industry, multi-institutional and NHS research linked projects.
