About the Course

This hands-on course examines how content is organized and structured to create an experience for a user, and what role the designer plays in creating and shaping user experience. You will be led through a condensed process that acts as a roadmap for developing robust UI/UX design: from ideation and sitemapping, to the creation of paper and digital prototypes. Building on the design skills learned in Visual Elements of User Interface Design, you will apply this methodology to produce a digital prototype for a multi-screen app of your own invention. By the end of this course, you will be able to describe and apply current best practices and conventions in UX design, and employ the fundamental principles of how UX design functions to shape an audience's experience of a given body of content. This is the second course in the UI/UX Design Specialization, which brings a design-centric approach to user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design, and offers practical, skill-based instruction centered around a visual communications perspective, rather than on one focused on marketing or programming alone. These courses are ideal for anyone with some experience in graphic or visual design and who would like to build their skill set in UI or UX for app and web design. It would also be ideal for anyone with experience in front- or back-end web development or human-computer interaction and want to sharpen their visual design and analysis skills for UI or UX....

Very good course!

It was difficult if you have never used the software before...steep learning curve.

Worth the effort, but I think a lot was assumed in terms of student's experience level.

The prof goes through a really clear progression through the design thinking process starting from ideation all the way through creating a functional digital prototype. The 'shoulds' and 'should-nots' of each phase are concisely broken down. There's also plenty of practice exercises along the way to help broaden conceptual understanding, which also help kick start your thinking on how these concepts might be applied to your own app.

I would say though, that the peer grading system can be frustrating at times. Expect to be given one word/phrase reviews majority of the time, so a lot of self-reflection is needed to really improve.

Also, you might want to acquire some knowledge about wireframing programs during your own time. If you would like to create a more embellished prototype by the end, extra effort in this aspect (and maybe some know-how on graphic design principles), is a must.

The lessons were very easy to understand. Even though i don't take note of each point it was easy to remember the important points. The execution of each lesson is done very specifically and in an orderly manner. The assignments also helped me lot to understand the whole process and it was really fun to do so. I also had fun reviewing other people's work, i learned a lot about the thinking process from the other perspective. I had fun doing the assignments bcs getting graded and feedback about my work gave me a sense of achievement which encouraged me to do my work more sincerely and efficiently. Thank you for these great lessons!

When I started my degree in Graphic design I was at one point told I would have to do a little bit of UI/UX design I though it was going to be hard. I spoke with my cousin about this design program and she said it was something will benfit me in looking for a job. I came across this certification program and decided to give it a try so that I can learn more about it. I am so happy I decided to continue with this program. I am learning so much in such a short time. I have a brother that has kids and he is looking for a career change and last time I heard he is looking into Coursera.

This course provided so many hands on learning experiences from flow charts to creating sitemaps to understanding and making wireframes to understanding prototypes and coming up with a clickable prototype to finish the course.

This course helped me understand the process and stages of UX Design. I feel confident moving forward to my next course in the UI/UX Design Specialization. Special thank you to Michael Worthington. Your videos, instruction and examples were very helpful.

Excellent! I just finished my Specialization. I would highly recommend for any student of UI/UX Design. Both instructors Michael Worthington and Roman Jaster presented clearly and covered the whole process. You will have some projects to expand on and by going through the process a great foundation for future endeavors. I wish I had the fortune of attending CalArts visual design program in person, but this is a great alternative.

I'm thrilled and confident in my ability to make a significant impact in the field and succeed as a professional. Recently, I successfully completed CALART's UX Design Fundamentals course, which provided me with a solid foundation in the principles, techniques and best practices of user experience design. Thanks to this course, I have acquired valuable skills and knowledge that will undoubtedly contribute to my future projects.

Overall excellent course! The instructor, Michael Worthington, was exceptional and broke down fundamentals in a very easy and understandable manner. Creating my mobile app project couldn't be easier and it was a perfect compliment to the knowledge that I've gained in another course, which was UX Design! I can't wait to go enroll in the next class which is Web Design: Strategy and Information Architecture with Roman Jaster.

Perfect for me. The only thing is there is no enough sample or practice. For example; when you finish your week. you can not see any samples. What kind of pdf, or prototype should I upload? etc. My suggestion is it can be added at least 1example by tutors to see what they are or peers expecting to review. Otherwise everyone do their evaluation and give '0' point. this was very important for me during the course.

This is a very informative course for a total beginner like me! It is fun and challenging, but after finish the entire course, I feel that I have the fundamentals for UX design, and ready to move to the next stage! BTW in order to finish all the assignments, I took another week to learn Indesign and DX for it. I took longer than I expected, but it is totally worth it!

I absolutely loved this course! It was super easy to follow and the assignments were excellent! I'm a Graphic & UI Designer for many years and went focused on UX lately. This course helped me place everything in correct order and organize my methodology on mostly mobile app concepts, and move on to a more complete profile of my professional skills.

The lecture is awesome and the jargon is on another level, I really enjoyed this course and will recommend it to anyone who is looking to start a new career.  One thing that is quit an amazing highlight for me is working together with other students to complete our assignments and that teaches one to be able to understand how to complete projects.

Excellent. I loved the video modules. I also loved the instructor, how the course was instructed and the peer review process. The only thing I do recommend is that they improve on the week 3 module by providing better apps or program access to complete the week 3 wireframes assignment. Otherwise, I give it a 10/10. Great course. Excellent!

It was a great learning experience not just theoretically but practically as well. We actually got to design an app of our own, from UI to UX prototyping. Michael Worthington sir is a great teacher and his way of explanation was perfect! Thank you Calarts and Coursera for this amazing opportunity during these trying Covid-19 times!

was a fun program . I wish i would have received more feedback from peers for assignments. It would of beeen help to see previous students work for a idea of how to approach certain assignments. I had to ask group chats (not on the coursera page , but through what's app) if i was on the right track . Would recommend this course!

A great course for those who want to get started in the UX/UI design of apps. The quality of the video lectures is superb. The exercises proposed are well designed to practise the contents learnt in the lectures and the progression is just right. A good choice if you are interested in becoming a better user experience designer.

The course is short but very condensed. You learn all the basics you need that are probably covered in longer courses. It helped me to build my first app prototype! I fully recommend not only this course but others which are offered by Calarts as they are very interesting and provide good basics to start your career in design.

This course is very good, the exercises are really practical to understand the content. I think the process of reviewing other colleagues' work is interesting, but I miss having feedback from a teacher or professional. I believe we could have a tutor / instructor to give one of the assessments.
