What is intermodal? Why use different modes together? What makes it work?Lecture SummaryWhat is intermodal?
Most products have the ability to trade time versus cost. As a basic rule - if the cargo comes in full containers then it is a good candidate for intermodal. The key to intermodal is the use of containers and its seamless transfer from one mode to another. Think about it this way – if we can easily move freight from one truck to another then we can simply substitute another mode of transportation that is more efficient on that part of the lane - the cargo in the container stays untouched.
Advantages:
On long distances rail transportation has a significant advantage over truck in terms of fuel efficiency – which translates into a large cost advantage. On long distances (over 500 miles) rail is not much slower than truckAccessibility: by combining the advantages of rail and truck, the freight can reach any spot a regular truck could reach

I started this course to learn concepts that would help me push my supply chain career forward and this course sure met my expectations. Concepts were clearly explained and assignments were simple yet challenging to dive deep. I love the fact that during videos there are intermittent quizzes and they help me focus more on the content and listen attentively. Also, I appreciate the concept of reviewing your peers assignment once you finish and submit yours would stretch my thinking and help me identify, learn different ways of approaching a problem. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this course and hope to apply these concepts at work. Thank you Coursera and professor. With this motivation, I'll be signing up for more courses that I think would enhance my abilities and grow at my work place.

I don't remember when was the last time I had this much fun while learning something. The practical aspects of the assignments were amazing and further reinforced everything I learned throughout the course. But it is a real shame that peer-graded assignments in Coursera aren't moderated by the administration. I know it is probably a very difficult task to monitor every submission, but some people literally beg others in the discussion segment for 100% marks. Some even get full grades by submitting extremely sub-par content. And many peers don't even put in the slightest bit of effort while grading others' assignments. It's really sad and very demotivating.

I actually really enjoyed this course. I appreciate the effort put into the course and the notes. I know that most online professors have many options to actually avoid such work or even jeopardize the learning of the student. This was my first online course and I would like to thank you for the great experience. I know I had one issue with peer graded assignment but that was just a really unavoidable situation on my part. Hopefully, it didn't destroy my chance for a good grade in the course since I worked very hard. Anyways, this was an awesome course and I will advise online courses for my fellow students that have tight schedules.

I did this course after our professor asked us to, while thinking that it might be great to learn some new things about the logistics world and how and works. And I was delightfully surprised by how simple and down-to-earth the course was. Every video was short and precise in its information, the quizzes were a nice way to test our learning progress. But most importantly the assignments, I loved each one of them especially the third one about making a supply chain network. In total the whole learning process with this course was very streamlined and understandable. Thank you, professor Rudolf :)

The course is well-structured in terms of content, definitions as well as exercises to apply theory into practice. On the contrary, the lack of data (not involving international logistics but only US operations) and in-depth knowledge creates a large gap when studying and doing exercises. I think there should be more videos between learning and doing exercises to utilize of the materials Overall, this is a useful course for those who want to start learning about Logistics and Supply Chain, or review its fundamental to start for higher knowledge. I highly recommend this course to my friends

The course ,so eagerly laid out by Mr. Rudolf Leuschner, is very easy to grasp, and the assignments make sure you work out practical/theoretical problems.
The program helps you visualize the environment of Warehouses and Logistical Networks, and you relearn and view a different perspective while grading the problem questions of fellow peers.
The reading material provided alongside the course videos are excellent for making notes (though I personally prefer to write the notes myself).

The course's content was comprehensive, well-structured, and presented in a way that was easy to follow, even for someone without prior experience in the field. From understanding the fundamentals to exploring advanced concepts, each module built upon the previous one seamlessly. The incorporation of real-world case studies and examples allowed me to apply theoretical knowledge to practical scenarios, making the learning experience more engaging and relatable.

This course made it very easy to relate supply chain logistics to real life instances through the use of networks of known companies and how their logistics network are organized. Examining the different modes of transport and how they impact the expected lead times for delivery; while saving the company money in the process was also valuable. Warehousing layout and designing was a very rewarding experience. Also being able to design our own logistics network.

Transportation types, Warehouse Management, Inventory Management and Logistics Network calculations and map drawing and distribution of materials that I mentioned in the Operations Course informed me sufficiently.
In addition, the map I made for the distribution of materials to different corners of the USA, the calculations indicating which Warehouses the materials will reach the customer through, etc. made me see myself as a senior manager.
Thanks a lot.

I had enjoyed the course however there is more that needs to improved such as the terms used in warehousing and logistics should be explained as well and more examples are needed to increase the understanding of the concept. Am saying this because people come from different nationalities and it is better to be more detailed to some concept, for me i had no problem because i have a background in supply chain thou i had challenges on assignments.

This first course under Supply Chain Management Specialization is a great introduction to the overall topic of the specialization. You still need supplementary reading from other online sources, of course, but the course helps you refine your research to make it manageable. The assignments are also great; if you really apply yourself, you will learn a lot because the assignments challenge you to think to be able to solve them.

In this course, I understood the concepts of the supply chain, such as transportation, warehousing, and inventory. Furthermore, I really enjoyed the course, because the assignments are very interesting. For example, you could utilize the knowledge you learned to design your warehouse and your network. You also reviewed other classmates' assignments and learned a lot from classmates. Thank you. Professor Rudolf Leuschner.

As a beginner in Supply Chain Management, this course was completely new to me. However, I loved the content and the way the course had creative assignments. Professor Rudi teaches really well and the fact that it wasn't just him taking into a screen from a room made a difference. I liked that he was outside and showing me what an actual Warehouse looked like and what happened there as I have zero experience about it.

The lecture series talks about the various aspects of the logistics industries. The assignments provide an opportunity to apply the learning knowledge into practice. Every lecture video is followed by a written summary which is great for writing notes. In addition to the course materials, the lecturer Rudy is quite humorous and has his own way of delivering his lectures which made the topic enjoyable to watch/learn.

It was a good and easy course and full of many interesting information. I learned the difference between the various shipping methods and how to choose the appropriate one, as well as the types of warehouses, and what are the most important specifications to be achieved from a good warehouse, as well as how to design and manage a logistical supply network at an appropriate cost and with good specifications.
