About the Course

Have you ever wanted to build a database but don't know where to start? This course will provide you a step-by-step guidance. We are going to start from a raw idea to an implementable relational database. Getting on the path, practicing the real-life mini cases, you will be confident and comfortable with Relational Database Design. Let's get started! Relational Database Design can be taken for academic credit as part of CU Boulder’s Master of Science in Data Science (MS-DS) degree offered on the Coursera platform. The MS-DS is an interdisciplinary degree that brings together faculty from CU Boulder’s departments of Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Science, and others. With performance-based admissions and no application process, the MS-DS is ideal for individuals with a broad range of undergraduate education and/or professional experience in computer science, information science, mathematics, and statistics. Very practical and useful course. I only wish that some of the lecture videos used a few real world examples instead of ABCDEFG. That made it a little hard to follow. But I gained a good understanding of entity relations and normalization.

Overall the course was good. However, some of the topics like functional dependencies require more explanation.

Pretty good conceptual introduction to data modeling. I just wished the quizzes were both larger and harder.

A well structured course and the contents are very balanced and practical to understand the designing and practical implementation of ER diagrams and the understanding and learning of normalization, and even overall the concept of relational database design

The content was great and fairly straightforward to learn. The graded assignments were all "reflections" that don't actually require any knowledge of the material. That means the certificate for passing this course is basically completely meaningless.

The sound quality is poor (like a bathroom effect) and the lecturer is reading from the slides, so if there are other courses available I'm not wasting time for this.
