Good overview, however it is a little too "self important" (the "self being Johns Hopkins the institution, and the constant naming of the speakers' titles (named professorships) while not giving Dr. Griffiths sufficient credit. A mix between marketing and focusing on the research at JHU. I feel that there should have been more on details of historic practices, and discussion of ongoing indigenous practice with ceremony. I would also be interested in a discussion of the different effects of solo therapy (very much the typical therapy mode) Vs group therapy (psychedelic experiences) given that one key role of the experience may be the shared experience by participants when in a safe environment and the authentic sharing of noetic experiences may be reinforcing on the therapeutic effects; community also being especially important in use of psychedelics in treatment addiction (think the community of the AA 12 steps group).
This is an outstanding course that people interested should take, I've listened to some podcasts with scientists talking about psychedelics, but they don't always have the best insights and information, they often simply read some papers and share the information in them. This course teaches the progress of what's being done with psychedelics and medicine and does so in a simple and understandable way. Shamans and people who hold ceremonies, and the people who distribute psychedelics in different parts of the world should take this course to be better informed and do a better job, a lot of times they aren't so well informed and work with a lot of beliefs instead of science, this information could help them avoid many risks with people taking these drugs.
I loved this course. I just finished the microdosing program with the psychedelic coaching institute, and this gave me a deeper dive into the science and medical perspective of this medicine. Huge thanks to Johns Hopkins for this opportunity to expand the horizon of self discovery!
Amazing, informational, fun and overall a great way to learn about psychedelic medicine at a clinical level. It is very accessible, so you can either enroll with a certain degree of knowledge or you can be completely new and still grasp it properly.
