About the Course

This course aims to prepare you for problem solving through programming. In this course, you’ll be introduced to the C Programming Language. You’ll learn about various constructs supported by C Language and use them to write programs which can solve scientific problems. This course covers a wide variety of topics in fundamentals of programming that are designed to give you an overview of what’s to come in the BITS Pilani BSc Computer Science degree program. By the end of the course in the degree program you will be able to write C programs to solve scientific problems, understand the high-level components of a computer and how they are interconnected to execute programs, write programs using various constructs supported by the C language such as assignment, sequencing, conditional and iteration, perform indirect memory level operations of a computer through pointers and dynamic memory allocation, create, edit and delete files on a computer using programs as well as write programs to create large records of data and implement operations such as searching, sorting etc. Here you can experience the first half of the course very similarly to how you would were you enrolled in the degree program....

I like the idea and the course very much. But it is disappointing that the course certificate doesn't contain my name, but a title 'COURSERA LEARNER'. Isn't that weird?

Reviewing this having started the BITS BSc in Computer Science for anyone planning on doing the same. All your work carries through, however this is only representative of about 40% of the recorded content in the first year programming module, in addition to this there are also live classes, bi-weekly graded quizzes, a programming assignment and proctored exam. It's great to have a little head start on the first semester, but there is much more content and faculty engagement in the for credit course.

I enjoyed the challenge of this course. As a non-programmer, it really stretched me :-) On the +ive side, the course text book that is suggested as reading & reference is a really good and detailed .. that is kind of aimed at absolute ground zero beginners (like me) + there's lots of Youtube resources that one can pick as well. Once I had the book in hand, following and getting the logic became simpler. On the improvement front, will recommend that the course owners guide students towards installing something like Visual Studio so you can try things hands on while in session instead of only practice with the labs later. I had to figure that part on my own ... will be super if that guidance is given from the beginning. Again, trying things hands on while learning helped me with my understanding. Overall, I've come out with much more than I went in, so I'm happy ! :-)

This is an amazing course for beginners, as it starts from the very basics and covers topics systematically. After each topic, there is an assignment, providing a great way to evaluate progress. This makes the course the best and most suitable option for beginners.
