About the Course

Join us from 7 October to 10 November 2024 for a facilitated run of this course where you will have the opportunity to interact with our team from University of Edinburgh and Learning for Sustainability Scotland. Climate change, gender equality, biodiversity collapse, health, social equity, and inclusion are just some of the issues that concern us all, impacting human and planetary well-being and economic stability. How to live a sustainable life affects – and connects – everyone and everything. Over five weeks, you will engage with our team and your fellow course participants to develop an informed response to these major challenges. The course has a focus on education and learning; supporting those who want to bring some of the activities and issues covered into their own educational practice. You’ll learn more about current global issues and consider how we can all respond, personally or collectively. You’ll explore values and work with others to examine the ways in which local action can be taken on global-scale problems. You’ll have the opportunity to discuss and share ideas, perspectives, and teaching and learning approaches. Working in this way, starting from where you are within your own context and educational spaces - and sharing this with others throughout the course - helps us to move towards a new and collective way of thinking and acting for a sustainable future. Thank you for giving me valuable information about a sustainable future. Although I always studied something about it by myself, this is my first certificate and I am more than thankful.

I really enjoyed the course but feel that there should be a 'complete' button on the videos as I often read the transcript instead of watching the videos (limited data) and it does not mark them as complete otherwise. Also, there were many interesting books recommended but due to the cost, I am unable to access these, perhaps more links to articles and websites would be more inclusive.

I have learned a lot about sustainability on a local, national & global level. The positive, critical & negative impacts of daily behavior. I am impressed and grateful for the comprehensiveness of the course and that I can attend this course as someone with a middle school diploma - SDG 4 🙌. The resources are impressive. I thank all the contributors and also appreciate the updates that were added as I progressed. I completed the course at my own pace, unaccompanied. The course is excellently structured. The mix of learning materials takes all types of learners into consideration. The scope is easy to integrate into a busy everyday life. I really liked the quotes and reflective questions. The first video by Pete Higgins - Geological timeline - made a particular impression, as did the approach of considering one's own being & actions seven [7] generations into the future & past. The sustainability stories are inspiring illustrations. As a brand strategist, I particularly like how much emphasis was placed on the inclusion of one's own personal values & responsibility. Great. Week three [3] was the hardest for me to understand in terms of content. I will probably repeat this part a few more times. Just like the whole course. This course has sharpened my knowledge and motivation. I put what I learned directly into practice in my private and professional life. A condition that will last. Thank you.

"Learning for a Sustainable Future" was a transformative experience. The content was not only extensive but remarkably easy to grasp. Real-world scenarios brought the concepts to life, making them more relatable. The instructors, true experts in their fields, added immense value. It's a course that seamlessly blends theory with practical application, making it both enriching and personally rewarding. Highly recommended for anyone passionate about sustainable living.

After the course, I gained much better knowledge of the concept of sustainability and some ways of acting to achieve it. I was able to compare different realities with my own. I obtained more and better tools to fulfill my contribution to the process. Unfortunately, I doubt that the actions that are necessary on the part of each one of us and the governments of the countries, will be capable of reversing the current situation in the short term.
