It is a good course & I am grateful for any one you puts effort into making education available. The -2 stars is due to complete absence of moderators leading to a defunct discussion. Also be aware that there are a lot of peer graded assignments. Which I think work well, but do mean more work than a lot of courses. In addition you must pass all tasks, which meant I actually failed the course by getting the second top mark you can get on the last assignment despite passing all the others (a fair bit of work put in),

The course was a broad overview to different areas of climate science. At the end I understood a little more deeply the mechanics of global warming, but some things could have gone in more depth. I found the quantity of assignments/quizzes to be a bit unmanageable even though some were very short. I really liked the explainer assignments. When I first saw them i thought they were going to be a bit much, but actually they were extremely helpful as they forced me to process the information learned week to week.

For me, this was the most difficult of the 24 courses I have taken so far. I found that the course participants were left too much to their own. Many questions were very tricky and the answers were not always clear. This often led to frustration - learning was supposed to have the opposite effect. However, with the help of other course participants, I managed to complete this course. Little to no help came from the University of Chicago, which offered the course - a shame!

The course was much more difficult than I imagined - it required more time than the explanation suggested. For me personally, the theoretical part was often not enough to go through tests with ease. The most frustrating part was the last assignment - the scoring was not well designed (you need 9 and 10 to pass, but can get either 7 or 10). On the other hand, the course was interesting and I learned a lot. With a little improvement, it would earn 5 stars.

Unable to commit due to the complex calculations involved.

The lecture material was interesting and useful. Often, the modeling exercises were more make-work activities. Many questions were very poorly worded and confusing. No assistance was provided by the material online, and there was no response when there were "Report and Issue" submissions. Not well designed unless you are really into mathematics and very technical analysis. Expected more discussion of the pros/cons, benefits, and limitations of modeling. There are issues with all climate models and this provided no perspective on any of these issues.

The material is very interesting. There a a huge number of quizzes over poorly explained (or not at all explained) models, which would still be an interesting challenge if the models themselves had better explanations. This has been the most frustrating Coursera class I have taken, not because of the subject difficulty, but because of the lack of adequate resources for working with the models.

The videos aren't helpful for the quizzes.

Too Hard For Life Science Students

Really helped me to understand that it is several complex processes spanning vastly different time frames that need to be handled by climate change models. Yet, wished the course would have been more up to date and the quizzes more insightfull - One star off due to missing response from coursera as well original course author (course is more than 8 yeas old, that is, refers to IPPC AR5) - One star off due to bad alignment of schedule and required work (two thirds of work in last third of schedule) and bad calculation of effort (e.g. 30 min for quizzes with one point/question and same for quizzes with 12points/questions) - One star off due to unclear questions in quizzes, partly unusable 'climate calculators', almost no formulas, many 'click here and read the value there' type of questions, unclear criteria about 'timeframe until equilibrium reached', asf. - One star off due to book for course 100+ Euros. Got it used for 12€. Helped a lot to better understand the mechanics of climate processes

The instructor makes the simplest things so unbearably hard to understand. For example, when he converts hours to seconds. What can be easier than that? Instead of doing it a conventional way he makes unnecessary fractions calculation. He also occasionally uses a non-metric system of measurement which, I am sure, confuses lots of people who are not from the USA or the UK. If you don't have a basic understanding of science in general just don't waste your time on this course.

Horrible instruction and horrible instructor. Standing in front of the blackboard 1/2 the time so I can't read the writing. He talks in language as if we understand what he's talking about - I have no clue! He puts together quizzes in the middle of the lecture, and doesn't go over them, so I have no way of correcting my mistake, nor knowing how to solve the problem.

I'm disenrolling this course.

This is the most terrible course I know. They'd teach one thing and ask you something else in the test session. I regretted registering this course. They should work on their test question. There should be synergy between what they're teaching and what they ask in the test

It appears to be too difficult for my standard. I suppose it is not a good fit for me.
