Instructors get 5 stars. Content gets 4.5. The 4 star rating due to some issues with the answer key/grading and some of the R assignments expected more knowledge than that presented.
Fundamentals of Data Analytics in the Public Sector with R

Gain a foundational understanding of key terms and concepts in public administration and public policy while learning foundational programming techniques using the R programming language. You will learn how to execute functions to load, select, filter, mutate, and summarize data frames using the tidyverse libraries with an emphasis on the dplyr package. By the end of the course, you will create custom functions and apply them to population data which is commonly found in public sector analytics. Throughout the course, you will work with authentic public datasets, and all programming can be completed in RStudio on the Coursera platform without additional software. This is the first of four courses within the Data Analytics in the Public Sector with R Specialization. The series is ideal for current or early career professionals working in the public sector looking to gain skills in analyzing public data effectively. It is also ideal for current data analytics professionals or students looking to enter the public sector.

Reviewed Sep 23, 2023Too many words, too little actions and learning. The links to the material are all over the place. The R environment is extremely slow. The bulk of the time you spend on finding variables in the code-books. I am non the wiser and did not really get what this course intended to teach.

Reviewed Sep 27, 2024A good introduction! I found it useful to do a bit of extra work outside of the course learning R and practicing some of the data cleaning skills that were introduced. A well-taught and interesting introduction for people who want to understand how data can be used to make public policy more effective.

Reviewed Mar 27, 2023I think that some of the R programming modules were very fast paced, but I enjoyed and learned a lot from this course. I think that when the course is accessed on the mobile platform some of the quiz answers may get shuffled around and be incorrect, but other than that I had no issues with the course.

Reviewed Mar 5, 2024Everything is alright But there is one problem as coursera is used by every person in the world regardless of it belongs to which state therefore you should also include in this course the examples or discussion about states like especially Pakistan .And also make separate courses on Asian countries with topics economics ,administration etc.

Reviewed Sep 15, 2025It will be a 4-star or 5-star course once they fix the quizzes so that correct answers are accepted rather than rejected and provide better documentation so that students can learn how to code in RStudio without having to rely wholly on the professor's notes (which are hidden in Week 1).

Reviewed Mar 12, 2026The answers to the quizes are hard coded to very high precision, but fails to mention rounding requirements. For some quizes, the solution provided doesn't even match the answer needed.
