About the Course

This course can also be taken for academic credit as ECEA 5610, part of CU Boulder’s Master of Science in Electrical Engineering degree. This course covers the fundamental concepts and topics of quantum mechanics which include basic concepts, 1D potential problems, time evolution of quantum states, and essential linear algebra. It provides undergraduate level foundational knowledge and build on them more advanced topics. At the end of this course learners will be able to: 1. demonstrate full grasp of basic concepts in quantum mechanics including wave-particle duality, operators and wavefunctions, and evolution of quantum states, 2. achieve mastery of the mathematical apparatus needed for quantum mechanics and 3. attain foundational knowledge required to learn more advanced quantum mechanics and applications....

The course is organized around precise concepts with full mathematical details. Difficult, but essential and serious.

Staff never active here, especially in next course. Some problem, grader won't accept correct answer which give much confusion to learner and beginner, plus don't have any official TA here. Students have to help each other and it is not effective. However, content inside course is good. Recommend for looking for the lecture but not recommend if you expect specialization. There will be a few people in last course and no TA help you there!!

Professor is teaching too little material, students cannot only refer the lectures to do the homework, in order to finish the homework students need to spend extra time to search for the right material. I suggest the course should include a homework session that help students to finish the homework. Overall i think this course is horrible because the professor only covers very limited materials.

Nice course, harder than others from MSEE of UCB. Quantum mechanics is of high importance for an engineer today.

In general, it is good enough to get a grasp on quantum mechanical concepts, but an initial overview of the required linear algebra (at least showing the topics that you should already have a good understanding of) would make the course way better. Also, in some of the videos the professor is not really explaining what the mathematical expressions shown in the slides show physically, he is rather just reading the expressions. The course would benefit from more intuitive ways of explaining the concepts (e.g., see for example the course 'Essence of linear algebra' from 3Blue1Brown in Youtube) and more thorough demonstrations in the simple cases like the quantum harmonic oscillator (e.g., see the Quantum Harmonic Oscillator video series from Professor Dave Explains in Youtube) and others. I would even encourage recommending the students to watch the previously mentioned course from 3Blue1Brown beforehand, since it makes the understanding of the algebra way smoother.
