About the Course

This course familiarizes you with standards and policies of the electric utility industry, and provides you with basic vocabulary used in the business. It introduces the electric power system, from generation of the electricity all the way to the wall plug. You will learn about the segments of the system, and common components like power cables and transformers. This course is for individuals considering a career in the energy field (who have a high school diploma, at minimum, and basic knowledge of mathematics), and existing energy sector employees with less than three years of experience who have not completed similar training and would benefit from a course of foundational industry concepts. The course is a combination of online lectures, videos, readings and discussions. This is the first course in the Energy Production, Distribution & Safety specialization that explores various facets of the power sector, and features a culminating project involving creation of a roadmap to achieve a self-established, energy-related professional goal. To learn more about the specialization, check out a video overview at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Yh9qIYiUDk....

What an Extraordinary Course, I really appreciate meeting with such a skilled professor and a tutor too.

Though his main focus was on the USA and quiz were mainly focusing on the USA not globally.

It is a nice course to understand the basics of how energy systems work and how it can and need to be improved. But, is a little distracting to watch the professor reading a script in every video, just do not feel natural and makes difficult to feel more immerse into the subjects of every sesion. Also, as i said is very useful, and i definitely will recommend it to my friends and colleagues.

This Course is extremely helpful in providing the foundation of electric power system and smart grid with the flavour of Renewable/sustainable energy which is definitely the future of the world as per the global climate change and running out of supplies of fossil fuels. By learning and practicing this course, one could definitely achieved new skills and expertise in his energy career.

The course was very informative, and even though I am from a non-science background, I understood the concepts well. The only issue I found in the course was the lack of interaction and excitement on the part of the instructor. It is clearly noticeable that he is reading from the teleprompter.

Overall, a good course, but a little bland because of the delivery.

This is a good course for beginners to learn about power systems. The week 3 is the content with deep knowledge about how power sub-stations work and was wonderful to at least get acquainted with. This has given me a chance to have a little bit more confidence to take on more complex topics, I feel ready for it. Thank you very much to have this course here.

First sections are very good and informative, Thanks. Esp. week 4 is a soap box and lacks how renewable energy supply is accommodated in the grid. The only word used is smart. A worked out example of how the grid now responds to a day without wind / sun or a heavy storm compared with how a smart grid would accomodate such events would be much more useful.

It is a very useful course to begin to know more about electrical power systems and everything from generation to distribution. It is a simplified course, which is easy for anyone to understand. An important note for people, who want to take the course is that during the whole period of studying you will not dive deep in the physics behind electricity.

Some of the questions were not logical. Example: "All of the above" included "None of the above" as an answer, which negates the question.

Some answers were not in the relevant text.

Scores have to be refreshed if you retake a test, and sometimes the "continue study" button doesn't appear, leaving me to "back" button.

I have find this course useful. I am an industry experienced engineer and this course still helped me to refresh the college notes and basic concepts. I have find come of the links in the optional reading materials are obsolete and could not get the details. This course is not made for a practical oriented view!

Its a good overview of the electrical grid focusing mostly on smart grid and reasons to implement it. I was hoping for a little more technical information on the components of the existing power grid. A good course to start nonetheless.

some quiz questions were tailored towards America (like about percentages in USA), well as it is good, I think its better if quiz questions are directed more towards the content and the concept otherwise its a good course, i liked it.

A very well designed course, it gave me full insight about power systems and related stuff. However, US was the targeted country throughout the course. It would be better, if other countries power systems also took into account!

The course is excellent. It would be better to give resource materials like pdf or ppt besides lecture videos. Some questions of quizzes are out of the lectures. So it will be helpful to give additional learning materials.

Interesting course to understand the basics of electricity and the grid. I think that the facts related to renewable energy should be more up to date since this is a sector that evolves very rapidly.
