About the Course

The nature of digital manufacturing and design (DM&D), and its heavy reliance on creating a digital thread of product and process data and information, makes it a prime target for hackers and counterfeiters. This course will introduce students to why creating a strong and secure infrastructure should be of paramount concern for anyone operating in the DM&D domain, and measures that can be employed to protect operational technologies, systems and resources. Acquire knowledge about security needs and the application of information security systems. Build the foundational skills needed in performing a risk assessment of operational and information technology assets. Gain valuable insights of implementing controls to mitigate identified risks. Main concepts of this course will be delivered through lectures, readings, discussions and various videos. This is the seventh course in the Digital Manufacturing & Design Technology specialization that explores the many facets of manufacturing’s “Fourth Revolution,” aka Industry 4.0, and features a culminating project involving creation of a roadmap to achieve a self-established DMD-related professional goal. Generally, this course gives you a good overview about OT/IT security topics. Mainly frameworks, methods and technical terms are explained and the terminology is explained in an understandable way. Unfortunately, this is my first point of criticism: The topics are dealt with too superficially for me. There is often a lack of practical examples or implementation. For the most part, knowledge is only tested via multiple choice quizzes. There is no active acquisition of knowledge. I had already taken part in the MBSE course at the university a few years ago here on Coursera. It was similar there. The second point of criticism: many of the further sources are out of date. Often the websites or articles no longer exist. The university should definitely revise the resources. You probably shouldn't expect too much for less than €50 per month. A fully-fledged distance learning programme can cost ten times as much or more.

Course should have covered more topics with practical hands on work out/ example. Course work was built heavy on external resources which are available online for free and some of them are outdated/no longer exist. Course add only a pinch of salt like "There is something called cyber security & IP protection in manufacturing " which you need to think about it".

The course structure is good and covers a lot of relevant material. However the delivery is dry and uninteresting, as if I was being read a textbook to aloud. It could have been so much more interesting to be addressed in a conversational tone and manner with many different real life examples to bring the
