1 star because there is nothing basic about the mathematics in this "basic" mathematics course. Why are complex numbers covered in the FIRST lesson of a BASIC mathematics course?? I have no idea what any of this stuff is!! I thought that "basic" meant that it would start with explaining what a number is and progress from there. I had never heard of or even knew there are "real" and "complex" number systems. FALSE ADVERTISING!!
This is an exceptional course for guided independent study, or as a refresher of those concepts that are fundamental to mathematical insight. Please note that this course is delivered by two very accomplished , and respected educators. It is a challenging course, but the lecture material covers EVERY CONCEPT that you need for the homeworks. This course is probably the most well put together course for "basic" mathematics on Coursera. There is nothing "basic" about it,...you will be very satisfied with your results. And if you think this course is difficult, then you were not taking the right courses in high school, so don't blame the content creators of the course, blame yourself. EXCELLENT COURSE, I highly recommend it.

The first part of this course is very interesting, clear basic math's concepts easily. but the other part name calculus is bit complicated, the instructor goes very fast in this. many concepts need to be explain clearly.

There are two main types: whole numbers (0, 1, 2, 3, etc.) and real numbers (which include fractions, decimals, and irrational numbers like π and √2). Operations: There are four basic arithmetic operations: Addition: Combining numbers. Subtraction: Finding the difference between numbers. Multiplication: Repeated addition or combining groups. Division: Sharing or separating into groups.
