Ronald D. Chervin, MD, MS, is a Professor of Neurology at the University of Michigan, where he holds the Michael S. Aldrich Collegiate Professorship in Sleep Medicine and leads the Division of Sleep Medicine. Dr. Chervin completed medical school at Stanford, a residency in neurology at Cornell, and a fellowship in sleep medicine at Stanford. Dr. Chervin’s research at the University of Michigan, funded by the NIH since 1997, has addressed a wide range of questions in sleep medicine, with particular focus on obstructive sleep apnea, daytime sleepiness, subjective and objective assessment techniques, biomedical innovation, and cognitive and behavioral consequences of childhood sleep disorders. He has conducted or collaborated on research into the role of sleep disorders in conditions such as ADHD, stroke, multiple sclerosis, critical illness in newborns, pregnancy, and neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Chervin serves as an associate editor for the journal SLEEP, and as a member of the editorial boards for Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, Sleep Medicine, and Sleep Medicine Reviews. He is a co-editor-in-chief for the sleep medicine specialty in UpToDate, and President Elect for the International Pediatric Sleep Association. He is a past President of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and a former board member for the Sleep Research Society.
