Admissions

This program is designed for either practicing or aspiring professionals who are ready to build a comprehensive set of computer science skills.

Whether you’ve acquired your existing computer science skills through formal study, self-directed learning, or professional experience, this program will help you deepen your understanding, hone your practical abilities, and demonstrate your proficiency by earning a prestigious master’s degree.

This innovative program offers two pathways to admission, Performance Based Admission (PBA) and Traditional Application, allowing you to choose the approach that best aligns your background and goals:

1. Performance-Based Admission (PBA):

This innovative option allows you to demonstrate your readiness for the program through coursework. No application - let your performance pave your way. To gain admission through PBA:

  • Complete two three-credit pathway courses on the Coursera platform.

  • Earn a GPA of 3.0 or higher across both courses.

  • Provide proof of your bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (no specific field required).

Upon successful completion of these steps, you'll be accepted into the degree program. These pathway courses are a part of the degree program, so you'll already be making progress towards your master's degree! Enroll for Clemson's MSCS through PBA.

2. Traditional Application:

For students who require a traditional application for employer tuition reimbursement, our program offers the application option as well. With traditional admission, applicants are typically expected to have some educational background in the field and once accepted will be considered a degree-seeking student immediately. Admission requirements for the online Computer Science MS traditional application can be found on Clemson's computer science website. If you are interested in traditional admission instead, please apply using the traditional graduate application. If you select this route, a personal statement, GRE scores, resume, and letters of recommendation are required.
