About the Course

The focus and themes of the Introduction to Calculus course address the most important foundations for applications of mathematics in science, engineering and commerce. The course emphasises the key ideas and historical motivation for calculus, while at the same time striking a balance between theory and application, leading to a mastery of key threshold concepts in foundational mathematics. Students taking Introduction to Calculus will: • gain familiarity with key ideas of precalculus, including the manipulation of equations and elementary functions (first two weeks), • develop fluency with the preliminary methodology of tangents and limits, and the definition of a derivative (third week), • develop and practice methods of differential calculus with applications (fourth week), • develop and practice methods of the integral calculus (fifth week)....

Best instructor. Made calculus very approachable connecting topics, illustrating applications, and his enthusiasm (which is contagious). Wish he'd do follow-up courses for more advanced mathematics.

Amazing Explanations..... I love how the course is sequenced and it provides not only the mechanical solutions to calculus but also the theories behind each module and topics... Great Course

There is content on the quizzes that is not covered in the course. Quite a bit of prior knowledge is assumed. I had to do outside reading to prepare for the quiz. Frustrating and discouraging!

This wasn't for me. The pace was either too slow and way below what I needed or when areas were on topic, they still didn't make sense.

There were several problems with this course. First, the instructor was very difficult to hear because he did not appear to have a microphone and also because he would no enunciate. More importantly, he made leaps in logic that no one could possibly follow. I kept asking things like Why can we do it that way? Why would we do it that way? How does this apply to real-life? And especially, how does this link to what I have already learned in the lower maths? None of these were clearly answered, so I felt like I was just being taught something with no links to my current knowledge. This was a real slog and, although I finished it, I do not feel like I understand the topic clearly. Lastly, the timing was way off. While a person with background in algebra could make it through the first three modules fairly quickly, it needs at least three weeks for each of the last two modules, not one week. I liked the the teacher was enthusiastic about his topic, but he clearly does not remember the struggle if he thinks his students will understand what he is talking about.
