About the Course

After completing this course, you will have an understanding of the fundamental principles and processes of software testing. You will have actively created test cases and run them using an automated testing tool. You will being writing and recognizing good test cases, including input data and expected outcomes. After completing this course, you will be able to… - Describe the difference between verification and validation. - Explain the goal of testing. - Use appropriate test terminology in communication; specifically: test fixture, logical test case, concrete test case, test script, test oracle, and fault. - Describe the motivations for white and black box testing. - Compare and contrast test-first and test-last development techniques. - Measure test adequacy using statement and branch coverage. - Reason about the causes and acceptability of and poor coverage - Assess the fault-finding effectiveness of a functional test suite using mutation testing. - Critique black-box and white-box testing, describing the benefits and use of each within the greater development effort. - Distinguish among the expected-value (true), heuristic, consistency (as used in A/B regression), and probability test oracles and select the one best-suited to the testing objective. - Craft unit and integration test cases to detect defects within code and automate these tests using JUnit. Expected knowledge of programming and use of Eclipse is more than I expect for this course. I cannot find where I can donwload the sources mentioned in the week 4 videos.

I thank coursera for giving the economic help to be able to do this course. Sadly the course is not what seams to be. It states that it is an introuduction to testing AND automation. But it turns out that is almost everything about automatio and you also crearly need a background on JAVA to be able to understand it. Lesson 1 to 3 are great and are actually about testing in general but from lesson 4 onward is all abuot code and very complicated stuff for begginers. I am sad to say I have wasted my time on this since there is no way I have the level to complete it and they don't care to explain anything to you. The course literally starts at level 1 or 2 an then goes to level 20 without any explanation.

The content of the course is really good and the assignments WOULD be helpful for learning if the UPLOADING AND GRADING PROCESSES WEREN'T SUCH A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE. Setting up a local system that is backwards compatible for something more than 10 years old is A HUGE TIME SUCK. I spent TWICE as much time trying to make uploading work and get my way around opaque errors than I did learning or programming. One of the assignments DOES NOT WORK AT ALL and you are FORCED to look into creative solutions to be able to get the certificate. This is a TRAVESTY because the certificate is otherwise worth it.

this course is not made for new frameworks. i had java 21 installed on my macbook m3. the project demanded an older version of java, i installed java 11, still not working with gradle. then i had to even further downgrade to java 8 only to see that the version set-up only works with a AMD not intel chip. So i had to install docker, now the java file Demo.java runs - but the demotest.java does not seem to work with docker. after trying it for 10 hours, i am going to give up on this course. junit 4 is also so outdated. this course needs an upgrade - no need to learn old outdated syntax!!

This course is nothiing but money making scamm. Assignments have nothing to do with presented knowledge. If You know how to solve these submissions You have to be already professional or at mid advanced level. Cusomer help - foget it! Just simply unfair presentation of what you gonna learn.

Automatic grading of test code does not work. There are a lot of posts in the forum, from other students having the same issues. No working solution yet. Somehow course management don't seems to care.

Do not get trap into this certificate "Software Testing and Automation Specialization" last topic is not available since march 2021, you will end up wasting your money.

This is a fraud.

This course is old and outdated. The assignments use ancient versions of Java, and you'll get headaches trying to get everything to work. Hard pass - don't even bother!
