About the Course

The sudden rise in the value of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, and its subsequent decline, focused the world’s attention on cryptocurrencies as a means of payment. Blockchain technology powers Bitcoin and has been hyped as the next new, transformative technology. In this course, we first discuss the technical underpinnings of blockchain and review key concepts such as decentralization and consensus algorithms. We then examine blockchain as an asset and review the dynamics of the cryptocurrency markets. Finally, we examine blockchain as a business solution, with a focus on understanding business cases in which blockchain does and does not make sense....

Well done course. It dives much deeper into the topics than I expected but was very happy with it. Understanding the technology really helps understanding the business with and around blockchain.

It is really awesome course. Concepts are clearly explained by the professor. Graphical representation is also made perfectly to understand easily. Thanks to Coursera & University of Michigan.

Some of the videos are unedited, there were moments when the lecturer sounds like he messed up the script and redid the lines, but it's not cut from the video. There were also some typos in the quiz sections. Also, in some videos, the lecturer mentioned of extra resources 'here' where we can expand our learnings, but I could find no such resources. Overall, the material was very educative as it gave me more of the economical view of blockchain technology, but sadly the quality of the materials could be improved a lot.

This course covered the basics of blockchain. However, I found MIT Opencourseware's Blockchain and Money has more readings, is more detailed, and is overall more enjoyable. Also, I have not been able to access any of the cases offered on Coursera. Maybe it is a technical problem. I reported the problem but did not receive any help.

A lot of good material but poor in presenting the material. The flow was also not good. Needs more real time exercises.
